The Gilson team came to us with a modular liquid handler concept slated as their next major product launch. They had a working prototype and a solid technical foundation, but the design vision had yet to be defined. We began with a full-day visit to their lab, prototype shop, and assembly areas. By working directly with engineers and lab technicians, we uncovered significant opportunities to improve both the industrial design and user experience.

First round of presentations to the client - Goal one was to establish new VBL with a foundation, and goal two was to take the prototype to the next level with improved ID/UX.
Final design direct was (you guessed it) a combination of elements from previous concepts. The backward lean of the gantry actually serves a functional purpose to allow the head to reach the back end of the tray bed.
